Magic Labs Launches Newton for Blockchain Unification

Magic Labs, a provider of wallet infrastructure, announced on Thursday its integration with Polygon’s AggLayer to create a dedicated network for chain unification, named Newton.

Overview of Newton

Newton is designed to enable wallet solutions to connect with the AggLayer, which is a Polygon-backed initiative aimed at linking affiliated blockchains and facilitating seamless token transfers between them. Magic Labs claims that this is the first network specifically focused on wallet solutions and chain unification.

Functionality of AggLayer

Currently in private testnet, Newton aims to promote liquidity sharing across various blockchains integrated with the AggLayer. The AggLayer represents one of Polygon’s latest advancements, which seeks to unify liquidity and address fragmentation issues across multiple blockchains. Additionally, non-Polygon blockchains can also connect to the AggLayer to access other networks within the Polygon ecosystem.

Collaborations and Future Prospects

Since the announcement of the AggLayer in January 2024, various projects have expressed intentions to integrate with it, including Movement Labs and Union Labs. Now, Magic Labs is joining this collaborative effort.

Sean Li, CEO of Magic Labs, commented, “Chain unification is inevitable — like ACH or SWIFT for crypto. Developers can build user experiences that eliminate barriers. Users should only care about transaction cost and speed, not the chain. Eliminating UX barriers will unlock the best use cases.”

Background on Magic Labs

Magic Labs has been a pioneer in utilizing magic links, a passwordless sign-in method that many crypto wallet providers have adopted. In February 2023, a critical vulnerability was discovered in magic links by crypto wallet startup Dfns, which Magic Labs promptly addressed.

With the launch of Newton, Magic Labs and Polygon aim to enhance the user experience in the crypto space by simplifying blockchain interactions and promoting liquidity across platforms.
